Israel says it killed Hamas economy minister

When the Palestinian militant group Hamas launched a large surprise attack on Israel on October 7, Israel immediately declared war on the country and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict entered a new chapter of escalation.
Joad Abu Shmalah, the economy minister, and Zakaria Abu Maamar, a member of the political office, were both killed, according to the Palestinian militant organization Hamas.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported on Tuesday that a strike by an Israeli aircraft killed Joad Abu Shmalah, the economy minister for Hamas.

Hamas unexpectedly attacked Israel on Sunday. Later, it was revealed by the Israeli army's press office that the Gaza Strip had launched almost 3,000 rockets. Israel proclaimed a state of war the following day.

Israel declared a complete blockade on the Gaza Strip on October 9; no supplies of food, gas, or electricity are allowed in. Due to the escalation, Israel and Palestine both reported hundreds of fatalities and thousands of injuries.
